Languages

As a specialist language college, QES works with a range of partners on a range of projects to enhance language teaching and learning for both our own students and the wider community. We hope to share some of those projects on this page.

Ms Hayley Martin

Assistant Headteacher/ Director Languages

Our main achievements so far include:

  • Building and developing links with our feeder primary schools to support them in their delivery of a PML at KS2 via in-house support from our specialist teachers, an intensive French culture day for Y6 at QES, and video conferencing lessons to rural schools
  • The introduction of additional languages including a new German GCSE course, a Mandarin Chinese and Arabic lunchtime club, and taster lessons in a range of languages during Languages Week
  • The introduction of an FCSE qualification for all pupils at the end of Y9 in recognition of their achievements at the end of Y9.
  • Special events and projects to enhance and develop language learning e.g. Virtual Paris Day, Languages in Business Day, Creativity G and T Day, visiting theatre groups and French musicians and an intensive Spanish AS Day.

This year we plan to:

  • Further develop our primary work
  • Develop independent and online learning by working collaboratively on the ISSP MFL Moodle project with other Cumbrian schools, the LA and other outside agencies, and share this best practice with other schools nationally
  • To work with the University of Cumbria, Dallam school and 2 of our feeder primaries via the TDA CLIL project
  • To achieve International School Status for QES
